Why a rug shop, not a carpet truck
We hear it in nearly every Palm Beach Gardens home we visit. The wood and stone floors already have a cleaning booked, and the good rug in the living room seems like it could go along for the ride.
Trouble is, a fixed carpet and a hand-knotted rug were built for opposite treatment. Carpet is stretched and glued to the slab, made to be worked where it lies. A fine rug is a standing textile — wool or silk pile knotted onto a cotton foundation, dyed with colors that were never meant to sit under a hot extraction wand.
Clean a good rug where it lies and three quiet failures follow: the sandy grit stays locked in the base, the dyes can creep, and the rug dries slowly against your stone. In the Gardens’ summer humidity, that slow uneven drying is exactly how browning and a musty edge take hold.

Wool, silk & everything hand-knotted
Coastal air is hard on textiles, and every fiber and dye answers to water differently — which is exactly why we test before we wash. Whatever it is, each rug below moves through the same in-plant care: measured, pH and dye tested, deep-dusted, washed, and speed-dried.
Hand-knotted Orientals are textiles, not carpet. They deserve a full bath in the plant — not a hot wand pulled across them on the lanai.

A machine-made 8×10 in decent shape is a straightforward wash. The same size hand-knotted rug with unstable dyes, years of buried grit and a pet accident in one corner is a different job altogether.
What moves the price: the measured size, the fiber and construction, dye stability, how much soil sits in the pile, any pet contamination, and whether the fringe or edges want repair.
So we look first and quote second — one figure, settled before we begin.

Straight answers
There is nothing to bring in and nothing to drop off. We run free pickup and delivery throughout Palm Beach Gardens — PGA National, BallenIsles, Mirasol, Frenchman’s Creek, Old Palm and the rest — plus neighboring Jupiter, North Palm Beach and Juno Beach. We come to your door, roll and wrap the rug, and return it once the work is finished.
A hand-knotted rug is a free textile, not carpet fastened to the floor. Scrubbing it in place with a hot wand leaves grit buried in the foundation, risks the colors migrating, and dries it slowly against your marble or tile — which, in the coastal humidity here, is how browning and mildew start. It belongs flat in a wash pit, rinsed until the water runs clear.
We test before we wet anything. Each rug gets a pre-inspection with a pH reading and a dye-stability check, because some older vegetable-dyed pieces will bleed if they meet water carelessly. If yours is a bleed risk we adjust the method — cooler water, faster drying — and we show you what we found before a single drop touches the pile.
We inspect first, then quote — never the other way around. Size, fiber, construction, dye stability, how much soil is packed into the pile, pet contamination and any repairs all change what a rug needs, so a number over the phone would only be a guess. When we pick the rug up we examine it and give you the figure before any cleaning begins.
Usually, yes. Urine dries into alkaline salts deep in the foundation, and blotting the surface never reaches them — so we submerge and flush the whole rug to dissolve them out. Old or repeated accidents can be stubborn, and we give you an honest read at inspection on what result is realistic before you commit to anything. More on pet odor removal.
We do both, and every repair is worked by hand at our own shop — never shipped out. That covers fringe repair and replacement, side and edge overcasting, hole repair and reweaving, moth damage, dry rot, resizing and full restoration. If a repair would cost more than the rug is worth, we will tell you that plainly instead of selling it to you.
Most rugs are back in about a week. The wash is followed by controlled speed-drying in a temperature and humidity managed room, which is what keeps the colors from wandering — so we do not hurry it. Rugs that also need hand repairs take a little longer, and you get a straight timeline at the inspection, not at delivery.
