Why a rug shop, not a carpet truck

Should the carpet crew just take the rug along too?

We hear it in nearly every Palm Beach Gardens home we visit. The wood and stone floors already have a cleaning booked, and the good rug in the living room seems like it could go along for the ride.

Trouble is, a fixed carpet and a hand-knotted rug were built for opposite treatment. Carpet is stretched and glued to the slab, made to be worked where it lies. A fine rug is a standing textile — wool or silk pile knotted onto a cotton foundation, dyed with colors that were never meant to sit under a hot extraction wand.

Clean a good rug where it lies and three quiet failures follow: the sandy grit stays locked in the base, the dyes can creep, and the rug dries slowly against your stone. In the Gardens’ summer humidity, that slow uneven drying is exactly how browning and a musty edge take hold.

A rug that anchors an entire room has earned a proper bath, not a passing scrub.

So we do it the older, patient way at our own plant: measured, tested, dusted, washed with a natural pH shampoo, and speed-dried under control. Wool, silk, antique, Navajo, shag — the whole process is laid out here.

And when a rug honestly doesn’t need the plant — a newer synthetic that’s fine to freshen at home — we’ll tell you and spare you the pickup.

Where your rug actually gets clean

Wool, silk & everything hand-knotted

Rugs we wash for Palm Beach Gardens homes

Coastal air is hard on textiles, and every fiber and dye answers to water differently — which is exactly why we test before we wash. Whatever it is, each rug below moves through the same in-plant care: measured, pH and dye tested, deep-dusted, washed, and speed-dried.

From your door and back

What does your rug go through after we collect it?

Pre-inspect & test

We measure it, note the wear, the spots and any repairs the humidity has started, then run the pH and dye-stability tests. The exact price lands in your hands before anything else moves.

Dust

Pounds of dry grit hide beneath the pile — and Gardens homes track in plenty from fairways, gardens and the shoreline. We beat and vacuum it out first.

Wash

A full wet wash with a natural pH shampoo, chosen to suit the fiber and the dyes. A soft touch on delicate wool and silk; a thorough one on soil ground deep into the pile.

Speed-dry

Into our temperature and humidity controlled room. Fast, even drying is what keeps one color from bleeding into the next.

Groom & deliver

Pile brushed back, fringe combed straight, one last inspection — then it rides home to you. Pickup and delivery stay free across Palm Beach County.

Pricing, the honest way

Why doesn’t a phone call get you a rug price?

Identical dimensions, entirely different work — fiber and weave decide it.

A machine-made 8×10 in decent shape is a straightforward wash. The same size hand-knotted rug with unstable dyes, years of buried grit and a pet accident in one corner is a different job altogether.

What moves the price: the measured size, the fiber and construction, dye stability, how much soil sits in the pile, any pet contamination, and whether the fringe or edges want repair.

So we look first and quote second — one figure, settled before we begin.

The pre-inspection is free, and the figure we give you at pickup is the figure you pay. No coupons, no phone-quote games, no surprise waiting at delivery.

Repairs handled under the same roof

Wear we catch at inspection gets a straight recommendation: fix it, leave it, or — if the repair would cost more than the rug is worth — pass on it. Every repair is worked by hand, by us, and never sent out. See the repair work →

Call us and you get the people whose hands are on your rug — before, during and after the job. Nothing is farmed out, and nothing is trucked up the coast to a wholesaler you’ll never lay eyes on.

Most of our work comes from Palm Beach Gardens families we’ve looked after for years, and the neighbors they hand our name to.

What to expect when you call

Evaluation before everything

First we measure, inspect, and run the pH and dye tests. Only then do you get the exact price — before any work begins.

Washed at our own plant

Your rug is washed under our own roof from first step to last — never handed to a subcontractor, never sent off to some out-of-town plant.

An honest timeline

Most rugs are back home in about a week. If repairs stretch that out, you learn it at the inspection — not on the doorstep at delivery.

Delivery, scheduled

Pickup and delivery come free across Palm Beach County. We ring you the moment the rug is ready and pick a delivery time that fits your week.

Straight answers

What Palm Beach Gardens rug owners ask us

Do you pick the rug up here in the Gardens, or is it on me to haul it over?

There is nothing to bring in and nothing to drop off. We run free pickup and delivery throughout Palm Beach Gardens — PGA National, BallenIsles, Mirasol, Frenchman’s Creek, Old Palm and the rest — plus neighboring Jupiter, North Palm Beach and Juno Beach. We come to your door, roll and wrap the rug, and return it once the work is finished.

Why not let the carpet crew run over the rug while they’re already at the house?

A hand-knotted rug is a free textile, not carpet fastened to the floor. Scrubbing it in place with a hot wand leaves grit buried in the foundation, risks the colors migrating, and dries it slowly against your marble or tile — which, in the coastal humidity here, is how browning and mildew start. It belongs flat in a wash pit, rinsed until the water runs clear.

How can you be sure my rug will hold up to a wash?

We test before we wet anything. Each rug gets a pre-inspection with a pH reading and a dye-stability check, because some older vegetable-dyed pieces will bleed if they meet water carelessly. If yours is a bleed risk we adjust the method — cooler water, faster drying — and we show you what we found before a single drop touches the pile.

What should I expect to pay to have a rug cleaned in Palm Beach Gardens?

We inspect first, then quote — never the other way around. Size, fiber, construction, dye stability, how much soil is packed into the pile, pet contamination and any repairs all change what a rug needs, so a number over the phone would only be a guess. When we pick the rug up we examine it and give you the figure before any cleaning begins.

Will a full wash actually pull dog and cat urine odor out of wool?

Usually, yes. Urine dries into alkaline salts deep in the foundation, and blotting the surface never reaches them — so we submerge and flush the whole rug to dissolve them out. Old or repeated accidents can be stubborn, and we give you an honest read at inspection on what result is realistic before you commit to anything. More on pet odor removal.

Besides cleaning, can you also mend fringe, holes and moth damage?

We do both, and every repair is worked by hand at our own shop — never shipped out. That covers fringe repair and replacement, side and edge overcasting, hole repair and reweaving, moth damage, dry rot, resizing and full restoration. If a repair would cost more than the rug is worth, we will tell you that plainly instead of selling it to you.

About how long are you keeping my rug?

Most rugs are back in about a week. The wash is followed by controlled speed-drying in a temperature and humidity managed room, which is what keeps the colors from wandering — so we do not hurry it. Rugs that also need hand repairs take a little longer, and you get a straight timeline at the inspection, not at delivery.
